"Rising Pillars of Aberdeen"

Commissioned by Friends of Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums'.  The painting is not so much a literal portrayal of sea levels rising, as about the big issue of global warming looming over us.

The painting is now on display in Gallery 15, "View of Aberdeen" exhibition, at Aberdeen Art Gallery.

Work at Aberdeen Art Gallery, "View of Aberdeen", Gallery 15 2025-ongoing

I am an experienced artist and art teacher based in Stonehaven. My specialisms are in watercolour, collage, acrylic and oil paint. I have a versatile approach to art and believe in the importance of sharing creative processes and that there is room for everyone to explore their creativity.

I greatly admire the Fauves and Colourists.  I use colour as a form of expression and feeling.

My paintings have often focused on my fascination with mystery and nature.  I find the unknown so exciting. I use acrylic, watercolour and collage in a variety of ways from mixing with gels and other media through scumbling, dry brush, splattering and layering.  Over the years one of my obsessions has been with the movement of water.  I am drawn to movement and the experience of capturing either a moving target or flickering light.  I love to sea swim all year round, paddleboard, snorkel, surf and get as close to water as possible.
